Bill Hughes

Bill Hughes is a highly experienced and innovative Australian filmmaker. He began his career at Crawford Productions in Melbourne, showcasing his skills as a Music Editor, Sound Mixer, Writer, Script Editor, Producer, and Director.

His expertise spans live TV entertainment, scripted dramas like "The Sullivans," and recent successes like "All Saints," "Packed to the Rafters," and "Winners and Losers" for the Seven Network. Bill's work includes acclaimed projects like "The Interview" and "The Killing Field," earning him numerous awards and global recognition for his cinematic achievements.

Here’s What We'll Be Covering

In this one day intensive workshop Bill will work with the students and teach a myriad of skills which are needed before, during and after turning up in an "on set" situation.Starting where most actors start a screen career – the screen test - Bill will explain the understanding of presenting the very best interpretation of the character that can be presented in the actors own particular way.


Each participant will have the opportunity to take part in a "ad lib" practical screen test, first without any direction and then again after feedback, discussion and direction from Bill. Practical on set moves will then be discussed including walk and talk scenes, Sit and talk scenes, Relating actions to screen direction, purpose and framing, continuity and more.

Fundamentals

Elements of screen acting that are not only visual concepts of performance and will include techniques for listening, reacting and the very important craft of understanding camera technique.

Practical Screen Tests

Each participant will conduct a practical screen test. This test is about making an impact, making you the only choice for the job. Finding your own interpretation of the scene.

Technical Terms

"Mexican Turnarounds" and "do-si-do" dance moves translated to drama. We will learn the tricks of being taller, or smaller .We will practice the art of the "banana". We learn about catching the light, “cheating” the eyeline, being still and being silent .. but involved.
